Sustainability / Social Responsibility
CONJECT (formerly BIW Technologies) is committed to operate in a socially responsible manner. We have introduced and monitor a self-regulating mechanism ensuring our active compliance with our corporate social responsibilities. We follow the spirit of the law, ethical standards and international norms such as the voluntary International Standard ISO 26000:2010 - guidance for social responsibility.
We are determined that our efforts will positively influence our:
- Competitive advantage
- Reputation and credentials
- Ability to attract and retain employees, clients and users
- Maintenance of employees morale, commitment and productivity
- View of investors, owners and donors
- Relationship with companies, governments, the media, suppliers, peers, customers and the community in which we operate.
We recognise our social responsibility and as part of our corporate social responsibility plan identify and engage with our stakeholders by applying the 7 core subjects of social responsibility to our daily activities as well as our environmental policy:
- Organisational governance
- Human rights
- Labour practices
- The environment
- Fair operating practices
- Customer issues
- Community involvement and development
We have worked closely with The CarbonNeutral Company, a world-leading provider of carbon reductions solutions, to measure and reduce our carbon footprint to net zero in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol. All emissions relating to the company’s energy consumption, waste produced, business travel, deliveries and commuting were quantified and reduced through an offset-inclusive carbon management programme. By taking responsibility for all of our company’s emissions, our SaaS applications also have net zero carbon footprint, we are additionally helping to reduce the environmental impact of our clients and their supply chain.
The question we ask ourselves is whether IT can be a driver of a company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy or if it all is simply about CO2 emissions? The obvious and easy to identify factors are measuring and mitigating carbon footprint, but that has limitations. The real challenge is rethinking the business, changing the way businesses and whole industries work and use technology to help work differently.
We are committed to becoming more sustainable delivering our applications and services. Sustainability, here, is taken to mean an integrated, balanced approach to manage the triple bottom line – or the three P’s: people, planet and profit - and see this as an integral part of our overall approach to corporate social responsibility.
As a business, we have strong sustainability credentials for our applications and services (cutting paper, reducing transport requirements, supporting flexible working, etc), but we also aim to ensure that, we practice what we preach.
Further to our own responsible behaviour we are committed to support our customers in their targets to sustainable development. Sustainable development has to be considered as a high priority plan driven by the different regularly bodies, corporate goals and individual desires to focus on the global desire to save the planet.
CONJECT’s (formerly BIW Technologies) environmental policy in the UK covers all aspects of our operations from good housekeeping measures such as paper recycling, to ensuring that investments made are environmentally sound. The policy also commits us to promoting suppliers and services that adhere to environmentally sound ways of operating.
Environmental Management System
Following the initial definition of the environmental policy, the process of certifying and setting targets is supported by our internal Environmental Management System (EMS). This ensures that everyone’s roles and responsibility are understood and the effectiveness of our EMS remains high.
